LUCRF Super partners with Colmar Brunton to help the community

LUCRF Super supported a team of employees from Colmar Brunton (a contributing employer of LUCRF Super) on their Habitat for Humanity build in Vietnam.

The team comprised employees from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland who joined forces to do their bit for our global community.

The team of eight Colmar Brunton employees flew over to Vietnam and travelled by boat each day, to help two families upgrade their homes in rural Vietnam. One family were expecting their first baby and the other family had two young sons. The fathers of both families worked alongside the team.

The work was challenging but extremely rewarding. The build involved the team doing all sorts of physical tasks, including, laying bricks, building a floor frame, mixing concrete and mortar, laying tiles and reconstructing walls.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit volunteer based housing organisation who has built more that 400,000 homes around the world, providing shelter to more than two million people worldwide.

‘A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live’ is the mission of Habitat, who has operations in Australia and overseas.

Locally, Habitat assists low income, underprivileged families realise their dream of home ownership through volunteer build projects. Each family who receives a home contributes 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ by working to build their own home or homes for other families. They are also given a no-interest home loan.

Rather than a handout, Habitat provides helping hands to those in need. The housing and build projects encourage team work and co-operation, and empower people to improve their own living situations, much like LUCRF Super does, through empowering members to save for retirement.
